tale of stupidness

  • Jul. 13th, 2007 at 10:58 AM

i hate the grocery store at the end of our road. although it is by far the closest food-jobber so i end up going there often when i only need a few things. like today. they are always rude, even the owner woman. they just really seem to not appreciate your business in any way, so i always feel like i'm rewarding their bad customer service by going there at all.

well today, i went in there, and got my groceries, and went up to the counter. the owner woman was working the register, and talking on the phone. she rings up my stuff, never once speaking to me and talking on the phone the entire time. then she lets me pack my own groceries into my bag and runs my eftpos card (like debit). it then comes up declined.

i got that horrible embarassed feeling you get when your card is declined, and also that confused feeling, because i knew it shouldn't have been declined. i then had to unpack my bag all embarassed, while she continued to talk on the phone. i asked if i could leave the stuff at the counter while i figured something out and fled the store.

i was going to go to the atm to try the card, when i suddenly thought that i never put my pin number in the machine, so how could it have been declined? so i went back and asked if she ran it as a credit card, because i never put my pin number in (she never took the phone off her ear). she ran it again and of course it went through. i repacked my groceries in my bag. she looked at the old declined reciept as if she couldn't believe it was her fault. then she looked up at me and only mouthed the word 'sorry' with a sympathetic look because she didn't want to interrupt her phone conversation. gah, i really dislike her a lot. people!

they really are weird there. I feel like they only care about you if they know you personaly.

Last night I was in there waiting to be served. the checkout woman was off somewhere else and 3 people were waiting in line. she came back and didn't look at anyone or apologise, but started talking to the old woman at the front of the line, she seemed to know her. The conversation went like:

checkout: "Oh hi love, how are you?"
old woman: "Pretty bad"
checkout (vague): "Oh dear ... " *looks into distance"

* long pause *

old woman: "Yeah, you know, you just sit around all day thinking of killing yourself" * turns red in the face, eyes start to tear up"
checkout (looks up at the queue, there are now 5 people waiting): "Look, I'll have a chat to you in a bit ok, I'll talk to you, I promise"

checout woman rang up the old woman. the old woman went to sit on the bench outside, next to the one legged drunk who was yelling at another drunk man on the street who had previously just been yelling random things. checkout woman slowly served everyone else, while staring out at the old woman the whole time. her voice was barely more than a whisper.

she seemed like she was going to. but I got the impression that she spends a lot of her day dealing with things like that, and then doesn't have the energy for less demanding customers.

that sounds horrible!

I hate being on my mobile when I go through the checkout as I feel I'm being rude to the person serving me. You should rebel and the next time you go through the check-out, be on your phone wearing an "I see rude people" t-shirt.

Good grief!

There's a Chinese restaurant just around the corner from where I live. As the years went by, its food but most of all its service got progressively worse, and I stopped going there less and less.

One night about a year or so ago, however, I got a sudden overpowering craving for Chinese food that I weakened and went there to get some take-away. The service that time, however, was truly horrendous - not only was the woman dishing up my food not listening or not understanding that I didn't want rice, but a male colleague came up and started barking "Nine-fifty! Nine-fifty!" at me non-stop even though I hadn't finished giving my order. Finally, I just threw up my hands and cried, "Oh, forget it!" and stormed off - and I haven't been back there since.

if you could work, than maybe. i usually only see girls working there. but if you are legal to work it would be easy to get a job.
